Headed to Barbados for the 2012 WNBF Pro Universe!

Check out my latest vid 4 weeks out from the 2012 WNBF Pro Universe.

Barbados is this tiny little island just north of South America.  Looking forward to catching some Caribbean rays! :-D

4 weeks out!  Time to get into full Skeletor “Hibernation Mode”! :-D

MRI-Perfomance Photoshoot in LA

I’m back from LA after a quick shoot for MRI!  I had a blast working with the rest of the team and an awesome photographer!

I arrived at Pavel’s studio and Chris DeMarchi was finishing up his “action” gig. :-D   He’s one buff cyclist!

Afterwards, he threw on an MRI wife beater and we took a few shots together.

Then it was time for me to pump up and get in front of the lens.  We captured quite a few shots of me holding weights and making mean faces at the camera. The best shots were the ones where the ones Pavel said I looked “pissed off”.  LOL!  Probably because he had me holding real 50lb dumb bells in an awkward position for quite some time. :-P

I can’t wait to see how some of these turn out and hopefully a few will be used for future ads!

Pavel is an awesome photographer and it was a pleasure working with him.

I drove up to Burbank to meet up with Moji and his wife Patty at his photoshoot.  He’s also a lifetime natural bodybuilder and a good friend!  Amazing physique!

And you know I couldn’t leave without joining in on the fun! :-D

A quick and fun trip to LA but now I’m back and time to get back on track!  Stay tuned for more pics and vids.

Time to Kick it into HIGH GEAR!

Ahhhhhh… Sometimes I miss the good ol days.  I could show up to a show ridiculously shredded and walk home with some kind of trophy or sword..  Those days are LONG GONE.  As a WNBF Pro, you either leave with a medal or paycheck.. Or fly home empty handed! :-D

Play time is over!  I’ve had a blast this “off-season”.  Expo appearances, photo shoots, occasional burgers :-D , etc..  It’s time to prepare for the competition season and to kick it into high gear.  To the untrained eye I may already look lean.  But to the seasoned vet it’s obvious I need to bring my conditioning to the next level to hang with the big guys!

Diet is key during the next several weeks.  And with the help of MRI’s RipCuts, I’ll be able to strip away the last bit of fat and at the same time hang onto muscle mass. :-)   Cardio is an excellent way to burn fat.. But at the same time a risky way to lose muscle.  I’ll rely on my diet and intense training sessions to do the job.  Hat and headphones on!  It’s time to go to WORK!

Check out this season preview written by WNBF Pro Rich Lauro!  You’ll get a good idea of the talent stepping on stage this year!

The 2012 Texas Shredder Classic was a HUGE HIT!!

Dave Goodin has done it again and hosted another amazing event!   This years show was stacked with hundreds of talented athletes and boy am I happy I was standing on the side lines this year. :-D   Impressive physiques on stage combined with a very well organized event made one heck of a show!

We had to the pleasure of having our booth setup in between Shredder Built and Naturally Fit!  An awesome stage view with plenty of foot traffic to keep a steady flow of samples trickling away. :-D

Orlando tossed on an MRI wife beater and lent a helping hand at the event.

We not only handed out samples but hosted a few “contests” for full size sample giveaways.

Thumb wrestling challenger!

The “Charger Challenge” was destroyed by Maria!!!

Mark Domme, the Shredder Overall Champ, stopped by for a visit.  I had the pleasure of stepping on stage with Mark back in 2010.  A SHREDDED to the max physique and an even more impressive personality!  I wish all bodybuilders could be as humble as Mark.  Congrats on your win and thanks for being a fan of Black Powder! :-D

Stopping by my other sponsor and showing some luv.  Thank you Naturally Fit Apparel for the awesome threads!

I’m also VERY proud of my good friend Maribel PRN (Puerto Rican Nightmare) for her victory at the show.  I’ve been working with PRN the past few weeks prepping her for her stage debut.  We originally planned to “get her feet wet” at this show but things went much differently than we expected!

Check out this vid!

I’m also proud of 14 year old Gavin Wagers at his first stage debut.  He had been busting his butt the past 6 months to get in shape for his first show.  I had the honor of posing with him a couple weeks prior.  He shocked us all!

This has been by far the biggest Shredder yet!  I had a blast representing MRI-Performance this year and look forward to rocking the house at the next Shredder!

Thanks for all your support!

“What do you do for your lower abs?”

“What do you do for your lower abs?”

It’s up there on the top 10 questions I get asked quite frequently.  Let’s face it.  We would all love to do a super secret routine to get our lower abs to magically pop out.  HOWEVER, you’ve probably learned by now that abs are made in the kitchen.  This plays a HUGE role in getting those wash board abs that we saw Marky Mark rockin back when he was with the Funky Bunch :-D

I always like to say, “Abs are like best friends.  You know they’re out there but you don’t always see em!” :-P

BUT,  that doesn’t mean you should completely avoid training abs in the meantime.  When you and your body decide to shed off that layer of fat over the belly region your abdominal section will “pop out” even more!  Also, having a strong core and midsection will help with your posture and even your lower back!

I target my lower abs once a week.  My weapon of choice is the Roman Chair or Leg Raise Stand.

Yes, there are different ways to hit your lower abs but this one is the most comfortable and safest way for me.  It’s a great way to target the abs without excessively rocking and risk injuring my lower back or hips.  The contraption keeps your back pinned and prevents all kinds of crazy rocking. :-P

If you’re a newbie, you may have to keep your knees bent as your raise your legs.  Don’t rock up and down.  Perform slow and controlled reps.  Use your mind/muscle connection and focus squeezing with your lower abs.  Then, once you get your “gold star” you can start performing the raises with you legs straight.  I crank out 4 sets with about 20-30 reps each set.  Burn baby burn!!!

So.. To answer the question..

Step 1:  Leg raises

Setp 2: DIET

How I Prepare for a Shoot

I was sick for about a week so pretty much out of commission during that time.  It was frustrating.  There was no way I could function at the gym and my appetite was nonexistent the whole week.  I’m not exactly sure what it was but it’s come and gone and now it’s time to regroup and get back on track!  I don’t get sick often but when I do, I turn into a BIG OL Baby! :-P

I got well just in time to prepare for a shoot I have the weekend of April 7th.   So what do I do to prepare for an Expo or Shoot?  Well first of all I ensure that I’m lean enough.  Not stage ready but still show up with some crazy vascularity and cuts.  So during the weeks leading up to the event I completely cut off my “cheat meals”.  No more Triple Cheeseburgers or Steak Burritos! :-O  So much for my weekly “Burger Pump”! LOL!  I also start using MRI’s Rip Cuts for my pre-workout supplement.  This kick starts my metabolism and helps me bring in the fine details during prep.  Workout sessions are fast paced and intense!  My cardio is mostly done DURING the workout.

Then it’s time to begin tanning before the event.  I’ll lotion up and tan on a UV bed for about 12 minutes about 2-3 times a week.  I’ll show up dark enough for a shoot but not ridiculously charbroiled dark like we need to for an actual competition. :-P What to bring to a shoot?  BYOBO!! Bring Your Own Baby Oil! :-P   That’s right.  Glisten up enough for the shoot but don’t go overboard.  You don’t want to slide all over the place! LOL!  Also, a pump up band and a TOWEL to wipe off your hands! :-D

Shoots are a ton of fun!  Have a good time and relax.  If you’re uncomfortable on the inside it will SHOW on the outside.  If you think it may help bring a good friend along to help keep you relaxed and assist with random things that may come up during the shoot.

Check out this pic from a shoot I did 1 week prior to the Arnold Classic.  Coloredlion.com did an awesome job!

Until the next time Train Hard, Eat Clean, and be Consistent to get results!!!

Holding onto my conditioning after the Arnold Classic

I prepared for the Arnold Classic like I was preparing for a contest.  The weekend was full of adventures and with the appearance of Captain InsaN02 things got even crazier!

MRI-Performance has done an outstanding job supporting me throughout my journey so the least I could do is show up at my best when its time to represent a class act company!

Check out this pic of Captain InsaN02 making an appearance on MuscularDevelopment.com’s website!

At the same time I took advantage of my conditioning and had a vid/photoshoot at BeyondLimitsTraining.  I got to meet and hang out with some of my WNBF Pro brothers!

Thanks Rich for putting me on your wall of fame!

Peeling off my shirt at the Expo actually opened up a few opportunities.. When Captain InsaN02 made an appearance, I had cards upon cards handed out to me.  Photoshoot opportunities left and right!  So when I returned from Ohio I decided to keep my diet in check and hold onto my conditioning.  One of the photographers will actually be flying down to Austin an a few weeks to do a shoot with me. :-D

Check out this vid I shot yesterday after an awesome chest workout!  Still pumped and ripped baby!!!!

I plan on staying at this condition until its time to prepare for me next show.

Thanks for following me and supporting the natural cause!
